Here's a song parody I wrote a few years ago with a slightly similar theme. It's roughly to the tune of "Radar Love" by Golden Earring:
The Aging Rocker's Lament It's a rainy old night. My hands are wet and they squeal As I glide them over that steering wheel. I've been humming all night: a half-remembered old song About a wet T-shirt and a girl in a thong. I'm getting older and my pants are getting tight. I take my sports car and go cruising through the night. The car's cool and it looks tough! But, it's not enough. Rogaine, love! Rogaine, love! I need hair above! Rogaine, love! I wear a baseball cap everywhere that I go To cover up, but I think people know. And if I ever met that girl in the thong, When the cap came off, she'd be gone 'fore long. I play guitar up on the stage all night long; But, now I'm older and the songs just sound all wrong. A guy with a guitar looks tough! But, it's not enough. Rogaine, love! Rogaine, love! I need hair above! Rogaine, love! Visit my board at: Farrago Express / My other home base is: The Wannabees |

I think that cartoon was posted fairly recently, but it is clever.

Southernlady, you said "you boomers". Aren't you one of us?

Ann, the boom got started because the war ended, but it just kept on going for almost a whole generation. It was only until 1964 or so that the birth rate
went back to normal.
The older boomers are only 62 right now. We're just starting to retire. Wait until we all retire -- will the health services and nursing homes be able to accommodate us? A few months ago, I heard a couple of young doctors (late 20s and early 30s) say "we are going to get so rich with geriatrics". I'm not sure they realize how true that is. But in truth, it's my joke, and I don't even get it. --- Sear

I was lead to believe that a generation is 20 years. And we boomers are born between '45 and '65. I got in in '50. Been serving 58 years on a life
sentence.

Just for you, Sear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIA4gcrk-50 I've never seen this video, and the song predates MTV by a lot of years, so I don't know if this is someone's addition or if it "belongs" with it, but it's amusing. EG,
I feel your pain. I was born in '54. Did you used to watch Captain Kangaroo, & or Wonderama? Roy Rogers? Sky King? The Outer Limits? Twilight Zone? The Defenders? Thank you BF. My Internet access is dial-up. The good part of that is it costs less than $10.oo / month. The bad part is, I can't "do" youtubes. But thanks. |

Watched them all, except Wonderama. Had a major crush on Penny King. Saw all the Twilight Zones when the first came out. Missed some of the Outer Limits. I
wasn't that big a fan. captain Kangaroo!!! Mr. Greenjeans rocks! Remember the secret words to wake up Grandfater Clock? How about the Lone Ranger? Leave It
To Beaver? Howdy Doody?

I don't remember Captain Kangaroo very well. I remember Mr. Moose, and Grandfather Clock. Did the clockface have eyebrows that toggled up &
down? Was there a bunny rabbit on that show? Was its name "Bunny Rabbit"?
I have only the most fragmentary memories of Howdy Doody. But I think I had a Howdy Doody school lunch box. |

I think the lunch box was required by law. Grandfather Clock was always snoring. You said the magic words "Please" and Thank you" to wake him up
to tell a joke. Looking back, Pee Wee's Playhouse was the Captains house on LSD

I loved Captain Kangaroo. I seem to remember ping pong balls falling from the ceiling.

Sear,
Did you used to watch Captain Kangaroo, & or Wonderama? Roy Rogers? Sky King? The Outer Limits? Twilight Zone? The Defenders? The only show of those that I recognize is the Twilight Zone, although I never saw the originals. I also saw the reruns of Leave it to Beaver, Dobie Gillis and the Andy Griffith Show. However, I did get to see the originals of some 60s shows: Gunsmoke, Lost in Space and Bewitched. TZ was a really awesome show. BTW, if you ever go to Disney World, don't get on the TZ elevator ride -- it has free fall. But in truth, it's my joke, and I don't even get it. --- Sear |

The falling pingpong balls were connected with Bunny Rabbit. He would trick the Captain in various ways, and the Captain would be bombarded by falling pingpong
balls.
I've often wondered if the scene with the falling tribbles on Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek owes its inspiration to the falling pingpong balls on Captain Kangaroo. Visit my board at: Farrago Express / My other home base is: The Wannabees |

Who was Penny King? I googled her and got links to a porn star and a rap group and Ron Paul. None of those seem to fit the discussion at hand...
