It has never worked out that way for me.
In fact, I don't recall ever finding a candidate that took my position on the three issues most important to me; except for a few Libertarians. But voting for them is kind of like voting for Elvis.
So how do you really pick which candidate to vote for?
My (bulimic, sociopathic, lesbian) sister says we tend to vote for the candidate whose physical appearance is most like our own.
Do you agree?
Do you see which candidate agrees with you on most issues?
Or do you find a candidate that agrees with you on the one issue most important to you, and select on that basis? (so called "single issue" voter)
Or, you got a better way?
