Yes we plan to Rambo.
But the longer we've postponed it, the happier we are that we have. It seems to me those that went first were victimized, guinea pigs helping Yuku to debug Yuku's system. But you have me quite curious Rambo. I gather you've got The Round Table on a browser bookmark. If so, what possible difference could it make to you, which domain The Round Table resides on? Is there any feature, any advantage to being @Yuku instead of @Ezboard that Grace06 & I are not aware of? |

Re: Are you folks...? | #3

If I regularly visit more than 3 EZboards they lose all my cookies to tell me what I've looked at and what I haven't looked at. I find that the more I visit this place, the more chance of it happening. It's nothing personal, but as there are a couple of other EZboards higher up my list of boards to visit, you get knocked down to the "only if I feel like risking losing all my 'I've read this' tags". Sorry. Otherwise I'd visit at least a couple of times a week, rather than every couple of months.

Thanks you Rambo for letting us know this.
It would never have occurred to me, as I don't use any -already been read- feature. I'm going to try to figure out why Ezboard cookies would be more volatile than Yuku cookies. Grace06 & I have already begun the transition process. But we've already encountered snags, and at the pace we're going, it is likely to be at least mid-Summer before it happens. But: Though I don't know what computer system software you're using, or how much more local resource you have to spare; it seems to me the size of the cookie buffer is within your control. If you've got a few Megs. to spare, you might wish to consider devoting the extra HDD space for that purpose. |

Re: Are you folks...? | #5

Quite possibly I could, but that would involve fiddling with stuff and would cut into valuable surfing time. Since I have to squeeze internet time in after doing nearly 60 hours work a week, getting some sleep and working out at least an hour 3 days a week, cooking 5+ days out of seven and doing all the bloody washing up, I probably can't be arsed trying to work it out.
But yeah, 3 EZboards seems to be the limit. Any more and the "read" markers vanish most of the time, and the chances of getting logged out increase massively too. I don't know why, but then I'm not a computer geek. I just use 'em, I don't really know why they work. |

Re: Are you folks...? | #6

I'm grateful to you Rambo for bringing it to our attention.
The writing is on the wall. Grace06 already has a ticket in on it, and is trying to prod them along about it. Just a brief caution: If we get an @TRT-Yuku tomorrow, we probably wouldn't publicize the URL (link) for it until it's been put through paces, and passed the tests. But I might have been willing to spend months on that. As a result of your input, and that from others; I'll hope to get Grace06 to agree to compress that down to days instead of months. Thanks again. PS I don't know what the lag time on the ticket deal is. But I think Grace submitted it at least a week ago. I'll try to get w/ her on that next time we co-cyber. |

I would suggest you consult other people to see if they ave simillar EZboard problems. After all, we all know the associated risks in jumping to conclusions from small sample studies. And you already have quite a number of regulars without worrying about me. Conversely, there are some people who are less than convinced about YUKU or have vowed never to set foot on a YUKU board (Keith & Company) for example, who you may lose as a result.

You're right Rambo.
However, our hands are bound. We're at the dead end of the plank. The pirates are behind us, slashing and thrusting with their filthy barbarian cutlery. It may be better to leap into the stew on purpose than to be sliced into it like carrots. We'll see. "Ticket" still pending action. And thanks again for your multiple constructive perspectives here. |

Rambo I have never waited this long for a reply? The status is open? The reply box for them still empty.
Mac did not seem to have such a problem, nor LV, or AL and other boards. We will give them a little longer. Oh Six |

We certainly didn't wait too long, though there was a big difference in the response times and helpfulness between getting moved and fixing problems. The former happened quickly, the latter much more slowly (if at all).

Re: Are you folks...? | #11

That's one of the reasons we're still @Ez.
We've passed through the lethargic problem solving gauntlet. Most of the problems are solved. Things are stable here. We don't need (Yuku) bells or whistles. Moving to Yuku will almost certainly be rather more problem than solution. |

Hmmm,
Well it seems Grace's ticket was responded to, but for whatever reason the reply didn't arrive. Looks like we're on our way ... |

Sear, be aware that posts made on the day of the final move...and possibly the day before the move...will be lost. You might post a general announcement that if anybody has anything important to say between now and then that they make a backup copy or wait until after the migration.

Re: Are you folks...? | #17

Thank you Mac.
I gather the move is near enough for me to remember that important detail. My hope is that there will be more than plenty of overlap time, during which we can continue to run @TRT-Ez, while we put @TRT-Yuku through its paces. I imagine, the longer we extend the overlap, the farther the topics will diverge; a bit like Dorian Grey. The old @TRT will get newer and newer; while the new one will stay frozen, until we unlock the front door. Grace06 & I even discussed making any changes right at the transition. I thought of changing the name. I've stuck with the Arthurian theme, mainly out of respect and appreciation for Talisen, The Round Table's designer & founder. But it's a bit thin. I'd prefer something a little more like: GLOBAL VILLAGE SOAP BOX or something like that. Any suggestions? Free, Thanks. I don't doubt we'll be needing some help. But we'll take on the problems one at a time. |

Quote:I'm pretty sure you'll just have 48 hours, sear. It'll be a headache for awhile, but your emphasis is on content and not decoration and people come here for the conversation. That should be largely uninterrupted. There'll be some buttons and dials that they'll have to figure out, but nobody was born knowing how to work EzBoard, either. Mac |

Re: Are you folks...? | #20

Thanks Ann.
We'll see. We thought it might minimize the growing pains if we made all the changes at once. Grace06 & I exchanged thoughts on it about a year ago. I don't know where that thread is now. She's really good at finding stuff like that. Quote: How peculiar that they'd impose any such arbitrary deadline on us like that. Quote: The very first thing I insisted upon knowing before I sat behind the wheel of an automobile is: - which pedal is the brake? - I didn't worry about whether the exterior tone clashed with the upholstery or not. It is essential that we have the necessary controls of Administration: locking threads, banning posters, etc. We try to avoid using such controls. We don't do so often, or without reason. But an orderly community could quickly slip into chaos without a cop on the beat. And my problem with that is, one bad apple spoils the barrel. One bad guy gets in there, and causes trouble, hurt feelings spread, and the entire community is disrupted. We're basically just trying to maintain order. We'll worry about ironing the drapes later. Quote: I can't figure out how to post a graphic @CT's BBS. alternativeempire.yuku.com/forums/64 But basic dialogue is no problem. I hope anyone that gets in a jam will get the help they need. I've been posting at Yuku for perhaps a year, no problem. Anyone that hasn't yet is invited to check out their ForumFind options via their own My Control Center. |
