Wellington is wonderful, you would love it here! My globe-trotting days are over, no more moving for me! Yesterday I went on a two-hour horse-trek in a valley right near Wellington., You wouldn't have known you were only 10 kms from the capital! I'm already in touch with an agency to get cast as a hobbit, actually hee hee. Fingers crossed I get called! I know there's lots of waiting around and you might not end up in the final cut, but still, a unique experience! I have a few friends who were elves in the LOTR trilogy. Despite the waiting around, they're all really pleased they did it.

Production hasn't begun yet, though they do need to hurry up if they're going to release the first one in 2010! Del Toro is moving here for four years. Ian McKellen apparently is keen to reprise his role as Gandalf, so he'll probably be spotted around town. The Kiwi people don't tend to get starstruck so the actors get left alone a lot more than they might in other countries. The Chocolate Fish Cafe in Days Bay (across the harbour from Wellington) was apparently a popular hangout for the actors in the LOTR trilogy, but unfortunately it closed its doors last December. They chose to shut down as the local council were hiking their rates (taxes) to silly levels.

Alvida, calm down. If there were such bad blood there, New Line wouldn't have asked him to produce. He's not directing as he's already booked up to do Tintin.

The disagreements (and settled lawsuits) were over royalties paid / not paid for the LOTR trilogy. Would have been a bit of a stumbling block. The lawsuits did, however, mean that by the time it was all over and civil relations were restored, that Jackson was already working on something else, and could not be released to direct The Hobbit.
