This is interesting, sear. But I'm curious. In what situation would one use this?

Ann,
Some homes get "Natural Gas" feeds through underground pipes. Out here in the country, we're lucky to have electric & LL phone. I don't like cooking on an electric cooktop (expensive, and crappy). So I cook with Propane (LP) gas. The Propane company (nope, not Strickland, they don't provide service in this area) installed a 250 gallon tank, but whined that I don't use Propane fast enough. So I bought a 100 gallon tank from them, just to stop their whining. They filled it on June 7, 2007. Right now the gauge (which reads from ~0 to 85 [the last 15 from 85 to 100 doesn't show up on the gauge]) displays a value of about 50.3. So I wanted to know how many days had elapsed, between the date the tank was installed and filled, and now, when it's about half full. The linked calculator says that's 270 days. Just to make sure I calculated the number of days from now, until next June 7. It worked out right. So this means 100 gallons of Propane should last me ~540 days, or a week or so short of a year and a half. So if I get it filled next November, I should be good to go, through the winter. What's the big deal? Sometimes the snow gets so deep, I might not be able to get them to deliver here. And if that happens, I can't boil rice, and I can't heat my water for my daily shower. It looks like I use about 3/4 quart of liquid propane per day. |

OR
The Burpee catalog arrives, and says it will take 95 days for these vegetable plants to bear edible fruit. Aunt Gertrude says she'll be arriving Sept. 4. So you want to know when to plant, so that Gerty can enjoy your garden fare with you, during her stay. That can be particularly useful in northern climates where the growing season is so limited that certain crops can't be grown at all. Apart fro those two, it has no practical application at all. |

Except you never know when somebody might ask how many days between now and Christmas. Or from now until the beginning of summer. Now that I think about it,
the possibilities are endless. I better bookmark it at work. We do get some wacky questions.

OK Ann, but don't accept its answer as gospel.
I think it can be off by a day or two sometimes; still, handy when you don't have time to do the arithmetic. |

That site mentions a countdown clock. I have a friend who has one that is counting down the minutes until President Bush is no longer in office.

"I have a friend who has one that is counting down the minutes until President Bush is no longer in office." Ann Yes Ann. Our mutual cyber-friend Mac has one: http://freethinkerspub.yuku.com/forums/72/t/Real-Debate-Forums-Annex.html But there's no countdown clock to the election there. The news I've heard indicates the election is less than 100 days away. Yikes! Ann, that clock has tipped me off about just how fast time is passing me by. |

Note,
to use the linked calculator, use only numerical values. There's no -execute- button. So simply inputting numerical values it recognizes should be enough to get the calculator to perform the calculation. |
