My classmate and friend was killed in a subway accident recently. He was 21 years old. Despite having physical disabilities that prevented him from talking normally - he used an interpreter or an electronic notepad to speak - he was active (and very successful!) on the debate team and always had something insightful, and usually wickedly funny, to add our discussions. I'm cursing myself for not furthering our friendship - I learned a lot from him in class, on our short walks, and just by seeing him around campus. He always was a gentleman and a good guy. I'm deeply grieved and disturbed by his passing, but I'm also impressed by and proud for the way he lived.

Thanks, Max, for showing me an example of how I should live. I'm going to try to learn from you and live up to your manners and grace. Rest in peace, and God bless you.
