the Hottest Christmas toy |
Lead | |
|
I saw on TV the hot toy for Christmas is a mechanical gerbil or
hampster and they are selling so fast, that the company "has to open three new factories in China" Unemployment in America at a historic high and the
guys go to China...I know it's much cheaper that way(the Chinese will work for slave wages 12 hours a day,7 days a week), and they might have to charge $15
for the toy if they make it in America , instead of under ten, but really..couldn't they give those jobs to Americans?

Well, it is only the way, one gives back to the country that afforded you the opportunity to make millions, no? New factories elsewhere's.....they'll miss the "rush", no? Also.....stop the presses! ATLANTA - Kellogg Co. says there will be a nationwide shortage of its popular Eggo frozen waffles until next summer because of interruptions in production at two of the four plants that make them. http://www.philly.com/philly/business/70444002.html?cmpid=15585797 "IT WAS the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the
epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.........or some
such?"

"... oh never mind." ER Whew! We dodged the bullet on that one! R02, I share your dismay. But that's capitalism. Such toys aren't about bringing joy to children Christmas morning. They're about bringing profits to investors. Merry Christmas. LotD, Le'go my Pop Tart. |

LotD,
Do you remember the "le'go my Eggo" advertising campaign & slogan? That's what I was workin' with. I'd be curious to know what the affects of an Eggo shortage would be. |

"Chinese will work for slave wages 12 hours a day,7 days a week"
It is possible to achieve the perceived normal standard of living in China on that wage, that is the main difference. The Western world is self-inflating (pushing the perceived normal standard of living) the cost of living out of reach of a reasonable wage, therefore unemployment and outsourcing. |

Hey, I have an idea: How about raising the minimum wage in
America from the impossible $7 an hour, to a wage a person can actually live on.

R2.....don't be rash/silly.
If you did that there wouldn't be any work for anyone.....as to do so puts employers/investors out of business. (or so it's touted..............) Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away... |

Luck of the Draw wrote:No, it is not touted that way. It is said that fewer are hired and it has a negative impact on employment. There is a lot that goes into unemployment, but you can not argue with the fact that unemployment is extremely high right now. Businesses that rely on minimum wage labor have their own sets of issues that impact them. An employer that only offers minimum wage gets the minimally qualified employee. They have the bottom of the barrel work force, high turnover and non career minded staffs. Most of these jobs are part time and entry level. There is an easy solution for one making minimum wage. Do a good job. You are either valuable to your employer or their competition and you will be compensated for it. |

So an "honest wage for an honest day's work" was just a myth? Could the high turn over be because of the low wage paid....thus the employer really didn't value the employee? Banked or could count on
"grunt" work force/pool? Cheap not good enuff....the goal "cheapest" and pimping our own.
I wonder if there is data pertaining how many companies went out of business when minimum wages were enacted? Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away... |

The more legitimate question would be: Do human beings have
value? Or is their only value in how much money they can generate for the small business owners? Oh stop Rat. You know, no real American give a good #%*%
about anything other than money. What am I, an America hater? I know no one can live any kind of a decent life on $7 an hour, but that's their problem,
not mine...I am paying them so if they don't like the pay, they can quit...there are hundreds standing in line behind them who will be happy to get the
job.

R2....hey buddy, can you spare a dime? Brother, Can You Spare a Dime," lyrics by Yip Harburg, music by Jay Gorney (1931) They used to tell me I was building a dream, and so I followed the mob,
Once I built a railroad, I made it run, made it race against time.
Once in khaki suits, gee we looked swell,
Say, don't you remember, they called me Al; it was Al all the time.
Once in khaki suits, gee we looked swell,
Say, don't you remember, they called me Al; it was Al all the time.
Man do I love recessions...and exploitation is a beautiful thing. And so much of that which we are seeing.
