About 500 of them have either been repatriated, released elsewhere, or died in captivity.
Those remaining pose serious problems. China's Uighurs for example a minority in China, disliked by many. It seems China doesn't want them.
It's not clear to me why the U.S. won't take them.
But that's trivial compared to some of the most hard core suspects. Some of them may seem to be guilty. But their "confessions" are inadmissible, as they were obtained with "harsh interrogation techniques" including water-boarding.
But it seems they're bad guys.
What should be done with them?
And what about violent sex offenders, pedophiles for example? Even if they've served over a decade in prison, their sexual preference is not likely to have changed much.
Should such persons be unleashed upon society, simply because the calendar says their sentence has been served?
What's the right way to handle these cases?
