I can probably name most of them, except for my 4th grade teacher, who started the year as Miss Watkins. She was young and very attractive. I had a mad crush
on her. Then one Monday she came in and announced she had a new name and a husband. I was crushed. I cannot remember her married name.

Amnesia, an excellent psychological self-defense strategy. Elk, My 4th grade teacher was Miss Hayes. She blinked a lot, due to (perhaps ill-fitting) contact lenses). She too was an attractive young woman. But she suddenly started to gain weight*, and so she left, and Mr. Kleinschmidt took over. He was nowhere near as cute as Miss Hayes. But at least he didn't blink as much. "I had a crush on Mr. Brown." Ann Who didn't? "Dang, sear, that was hard! I know I've left quite a few out." Ann I went to nursery school. I remember both Miss Lombardi, and Mrs. Esmay from there. I remember the up to the 9th grade. By then we had a variety of teachers in our yearly syllabus so nailing it down to one teacher is impossible. * Unmarried, and pregnant; quite a scandal in those days; though they didn't tell us students what was going on. |

How in the world can you guys do that. I can only remember three, but I remember all the faces faces.
Let me think, Miss G. first, Miss M forth, 'I think I was traumatized in the sixth grade by Miss S. because she was always fixing the paper tissue in her bra. She would take it out and put it back. I just remembered Mr. E. in the 5th and Mr. P in the 7th. Mr E always played with the back of his head? Mr P. told me I could do Math. I think she thought we were all taking tests, but you know how that would be if one looks up, soon the whole class will be seeing it.

Mrs. Warren was my kindergarten teacher. She was memorable in a lot of ways, but a big part of it was that she only had one arm and could read a book to us,
holding the book up and turning the pages so that they were facing us. We were fascinated by that talent.

"Mr P. told me I could do Math. Grace, Your pronouns skipped gender here. Are you trying to protect not only the names, but the genders of these public servants that probably died of old age decades ago? "Mrs. Warren was my kindergarten teacher." Ann Miss Kohut was mine. She had two arms. |

Grace,
Your pronouns skipped gender here. Are you trying to protect not only the names, but the genders of these public servants that probably died of old age decades ago? sear sear, that is not exactly what happened. (I skipped finishing telling a the story of Miss S with the tissue in her bra) I finished it up after telling about Mr.P telling me I could do math. You know how I can go to and fro, without thinking. Oh Six

OK
So why are so many of these female faculty members "Miss", instead of "Mrs."? |

sear wrote: that's the way it was in the old days, married women didn't work...in those days even a semi-skilled job paid enough for only the man to work and the woman to raise the kids in a small house they owned and a car....so the women teachers were almost always single and therefore "Miss"...all that has changed...since the republicans destroyed worker protection and collective bargaining, but that's another subject lol |

I remember many of their faces, but without going through my yearbooks (and Zorb knows why I even have any) I can name three; Mrs. Levine...my third &
fourth grade teacher and the first one I ever had for more than a couple of months...Mr. Rice who taught art at Northside High School and killed himself when
somebody outed him for being a homosexual, and Mr. Lang, also an art teacher and Mr. Rice's "special friend". I think that was the first time
both the reality of homosexuality and the enormity of prejudice against gays hit me. I adored Mr. Rice, and my rabidly homophobic mother who was ordinarily the
kindliest of souls was dang near spiteful about it. I think her venom was just a product of generational indoctrination, but it shocked me nonetheless. Mr.
Rice was a gentle sort of person who liked kids, loved art and teaching and wouldn't have dreamed of hurting anyone. He should never have been
driven to that extreme.
Stupid '60s.

That's interesting Mac.
The only gay teacher I can think of is my 9th grade science teacher, Mr. May. He wasn't "out" (so far as I know). But he lived with his Mom. Anyway, one day Roger, a fellow student told the following joke in Mr. May's presence. Q: - What's another name for a blood fetishist? - A: - A hemosexual. - Mr. May let out a huge cackle. I finally put two and two together, in my ~30's. I figured out a lot of stuff in my ~30's. |

Well Mac you may have forgot, but the above does not surprise me. You showed pictures of all well 1/2 of your books. I was in shock, and then you even said you had read them all. That was 'woe' enough for me. I just now got the 'hemosexual.'
Agreed too Max about the 60,s. I am surprised, but my Mother was more tolerant of those matter's even back then. A family member married a homosexual (which happened quite a bit before coming out of the closet) Then they divorced because of this, but have remained friends and this man is still a complete part of our family. It is difficult, but our entire family to this very day think of him as family and he is at all reunions, weddings, funerals. For some in my family this is truly saying something. Something I can be proud of them for. Oh Six

Nice to see you again Q Paladin. It has been some time now. Don't be a stranger and always feel welcome here.
You can sure remember your grade school teachers. I think I remember more of my high school teachers. We had Jr.High School. 7th & 8th grade then on to the big school. If I remember right we may have had a 6th grade graduation, but again that may have only been 8th grade. graceyacums

I can remember all my elementary teachers names. You might say I got off to a rocky start as my kindergarten teacher had a drinking problem. (later found out) Do remember coming home and relaying to my folks....."mrs ????? smells funny!!" My folks took it as perfume too strong...what does a five year old know.....? Also remember tad problem....nap time....didn't like laying on floor on a rug/mat as that is what dogs were forced to do, and voiced this.

"1st Mom(Mrs. Smith)" QP Cool. I would have found it awkward to have my Mom be my teacher. I didn't start being a good student until I got to college. |
