I don't feel threatend by people just because they are in a not so nice area. Having been very poor and living on the "seedy" side of town, I can
spot a danger and avoid it. Often by just making eye contact and a nod of the head.

I know for sure that they are either going to ask me for money, or try to sell me something, and I ignore them. If I get too nice, they will use that against me. They know that most people don't like to be rude. But spam is pretty rude. Sher Well for heavens sake Sher? Ask for money or sell you something! They have a problem and I don't blame you for ignoring them. We don't have much selling of stuff anymore except the Avon and even if something I wanted I would not buy it because then they never leave you alone. I might give some one a few bucks, if they left their wallet home or lost their money and all this was obvious. People just stop you on the street and do this? No wonder you ignore them. I do have one lady I try to stay away from in a store. She is nice, 'but' she will look at what you have and ask if you have a coupon and if not she will dig in her big pile to find you one. Oh Six |

You mean, it doesn't happen to you? This is very interesting. How big is the town where you live? Many people who are interested in selling ideas, products or causes are getting very aggressive with it. They approach me about buying products and services that are hard to sell, donating money to a cause they believe in, joining their religion, supporting a politician, giving them free money, and countless other things. And they don't usually take no for an answer, as that would make them bad salesmen / beggars. But in truth, it's my joke, and I don't even get it. --- Sear |

The way to get people to vote your way or contribute money is not to harass them. Greenpeace activists especially need to learn this. It's door to door harassment that really irritates me. It's door to door harassment that really irritates me. When people are out, at least they factor in the possibility that they'll run into people trying to get their attention. People in their own home are off limits. I agree. I've had Mormons or something preach at me using the intercom button at the entrance of my building. I thought it was so tacky. A few months ago I was marching through a supermarket aisle when suddenly I heard an angelic, and slightly familiar voice. It was a charming, attractive young woman, and friend. Yet I'd have walked past her without noticing it was her if she hadn't called me by name. How can I even pretend to have a libido when something that embarrassing happens? |

It is a town about 10000. But even in bigger towns I have never had it happen. We don't allow door to door in this area. We don't sell permits for it either. Oh Six |

I slammed into a large concrete pillar about three seconds later and the only reason I didn't break my face was that it was pointed in his direction at the time. 
The Other Half was overly reactive, I must say. He said something along the lines of "  ".

Mac - that's a good one.
It reminds me of something else. A friend of mine tells a great story about how, when she was in France a few years, she was exchanging looks with a pair of really good looking French boys, and in an attempt to flirt with them a little bit in a more universal language, she imitated a move that she had seen on television but not properly practiced. 
She has really long, curly hair, and she tried to pull out her ponytail holder and shake out her hair in an attractive - but not over the top - manner. Of course, in her attempt to entice these hunky French boys, her hairband got stuck in her hair about halfway down. She played it cool as she tried to work it out without attracting notice... but then her fingers also got tangled in her hair, and it took her elbow grease as well as a few minutes to free herself... not to mention significant pain. She slinked off after that. And she
hasn't tried that move since.

I have even gotten home with someone else's groceries. (Things I would have never bought) I find grocery stores very cold so I suppose I hurry and don't pay enough attention. Mac what a story.
Cass I immediattly remembered (with your story) of how fashionable it was to go to town, store, any shopping with our hair in curlers. Oh my how horrid a look that was, but a lot of females did it? I suppose it was so their hair would look good at night? We also would set our hair in stale beer. Just dampen the comb in it and roll the hair up the wire curlers. (Oh the Misery) In school we even slept in the things. Thank goodness I missed the 'bee-hive' craze. They would wrap their hair in toilet paper so to keep the style all week. But too I am usually not looking for hunky hunky guys when I shop.
