Dieting..what works for me |

My sweetie and I have lost 70 pounds total together since mid January with nutri-system. It is not a magical food although it does have some healthy properties
that other foods do not...but it helped us learn portion control and to eat low glycemic index good carbs and low fat. We have done well with it so far, and
will continue on it until mid month next month when we go on vacation. We will resume when we return from vacation then slowly start modifying with other foods
but keeping to the concept and the healthy eating. We will always keep some nutrisystem around for getting back on track until healthy choices become
ingrained.

wyer,
I used to lead a very physically active life. When that tapered off precipitously, my appetite remained. The result was I still got a huge caloric intake, but simply wasn't burning enough calories. What I learned from that is, diet and portion control is important. On the margins there are things that can be done. Skipping delicious high calorie salad dressings in favor of either none at all, or reduced calorie dressings, perhaps mostly vinegar, can help. But the other part of the equation is getting sufficient exercise. I've got some friends that installed a volley ball net at their home, and it slimmed them down to near teenage-like physique. They played volleyball energetically, enthusiastically simply because they enjoyed it so much. It didn't seem like "exercise" to them. Compare that to (for example) a treadmill. I think before I bought a treadmill, I'd instead invest in some superb running shoes, and a suitable outdoor wardrobe. Instead of the treadmill, I'd walk outside, rain or shine, Summer or Winter. If you can find some sport such as volleyball you really enjoy, it may make a bigger difference than your diet. And you'll be in much better cardiovascular trim as well. |

Diets that work for me? None. Yes, I do lose weight, but always gain it back when the diet is over. And no, I'm not yet prepared to eat
"healthy" for the rest of my life.
If you can find some sport such as volleyball you really enjoy, it may make a bigger difference than your diet. The only sport I enjoy is swimming, and I don't have a swimming pool, so I don't see it as an option. Wyer, congrats on losing your weight and keeping it off. Un solo territorio, una sola bandera. Patria libre o morir! |

Thanks Sherezada. (and it's wyer..not Wyer

sear, volleyball happens to be one of my all time favorite sports, but I'v e never had opportunity to play it much. There was a bar in Arlington that had one in their backyard with a fence around the yard, sand in there and tables around. I just happened to be married to a party pooping poppy dooper at the time. I'm pretty busy with work right now, and helping at Habitat for Humanity, but I may check to see if their are any teams in the area.
Never mind...I found it.

Like Sher, I've dieted, exercised and lost weight in the past. It always comes back.
I'm a very sedentary person. Until I change that, no diet in the world is going to work. And right now, I'm not ready or don't have the will power to make a life change.

Ann,
I'm a very sedentary person. Until I change that, no diet in the world is going to work.Same here. I'm a low energy person, and tire easily. Active lifestyles are not for me. And right now, I'm not ready or don't have the will power to make a life change.I recently had the will power to make a major change for a year: I went to the gym 3-5 times a week. Did my metabolism speed up, or did my muscles tone up? No. I hope this makes you feel better about your "lack of will power". Un solo territorio, una sola bandera. Patria libre o morir! |

Thanks, Sher. It's surprising that going to a gym that often for that long didn't make a difference. In the past, salads and walking were all it
took. At 49, I'm not so sure that would do the trick anymore.
The sad thing is that my office mate lost 60 or so pounds last year with dieting and walking. She's nearly my age and weighed more than I do. I could have/should have done it with her, but I didn't. What a missed opportunity!

I always before had a very active lifestyle and keeping weight on was harder than losing. I have to watch and not lose too much as its difficult to put back
on. I feel better and can do so much more at one weight. Even just a couple pounds over 110 seems to bog me down.
My favorite excercise was riding my bike. In fact I dreamed I was back bike riding again last night. Getting it out of the attic will not be that easy though and wow the hills I have out here? I'll have to start slow if I decide to do that. I have never watched what I ate, except when I need to gain and then I use special boost power drinks, and they help. Oh Six |

Okay why are there no violent emoticons on here? I need to smack or thunk or kick Dan and I have no emoticon to do it with!
sear, will you fix that please? I can send you my personal *thunk* smilie if you will put it up. In the mean time Mr. Dan, consider yourself both thunked and rasberried.

I don't know how.
Grace06 has been handling them since we migrated to Yuku. Do you have the one of hitting the guy with a stick? I don't think Grace likes a whole lot of gore. But she probably likes Gore well enough. BTW, AlGore said he was approached by a woman that told him: - You know, if you'd dye your hair, you'd look just like Al Gore. - |

I don't mind a couple of violent emotes' I will NOT have porn ones, if they are only cartoon or not. Ones that insult another and says horrid words. yuku seemed so set 'With their own profanity filter?' Its' administrations' duty to put porn spam in a private forum. It surprises me yuku has allowed the 'nasty' emotes! There have been a couple of emotes I have thought about putting in. I think once we had a fish thunk one. (it was not too bad or insulting) I am not sure what you want wyer? Oh Six |

Sher, I agree with you about putting the weight back on after you go off the diet, and I also agree that I'm not ready to eat 'right' for the rest
of my life. One thing that had worked for me is giving myself either 1 day a week or weekends off to eat whatever I want, and eating right during the week.
That can make a huge difference and you are never more than a couple of days from being able to eat whatever you want, so it doesn't seem like you took a
vow of abstinance.
