But if I could get fiberoptic speed at dial-up prices, I'd go for it.

I called Verizon (my landline) to get the higher speed, but as I live in a 55 + community they said they don't serve us! I guess they figure that there are too many older folks that don't have a computer so why invest in the project. I'd claim "age" discrimination but I'm sure they would come up with a different...

I've heard of high speed Internet access via the power grid. I can't imagine how it would work though.
The signal would have to get through the transformer, etc.
But if I could get fiberoptic speed at dial-up prices, I'd go for it.

On the Clark Howard show he spoke of high speed through power lines in Asia. Easy and cheap so the government needs to mess it up.

I had WildBlue for 2+years and it offered uploads (256 or 384) I think without a phone line needed at all. When Roadrunner and digital cable came to the sticks I signed up for it.

You're right about that last part LV. Gick had the personality and interests of a 5 year old boy.
